Before we look at the MM5 results, let's take a look at what actually happened. This slide shows the observed rainfall from 12Z September 6 to 12Z September 7 (actually, all of the reain fell in the latter 12 hours). Note that the axis of heaviest rainfall occured from the central Lake Ontario shoreline eastward through the Syracuse area and then along and near the Mohawk River Valley and northern Carskills. Some additional higher rainfall reports over western New York (south of Rochester) were due to another east-west line of weaker thunderstorms that developed over the area shortly after the "tail" the bow echo moved through (see the radar loop in slide 34).
