The previous slide indicated that there would be frontal-scale forcing (in the form of frontogenesis) available to focus the large-scale lift. The next question to be answered would be: is there any instability (or weak stability) available to help to intensify the lift? The data on this slide shows how the omega is being focused by the frontogenesis across eastern Pa and central NY at 00z on the 28th. However, the instability (as indicated by negative EPV) appears to be off to the southeast, across southern New Jersey.
