This slide shows the observed sounding at OKX (central Long Island). This sounding should be roughly representative of the air mass east of the front. The data on the sounding indicates a very small, positive CAPE above a shallow surface inversion. Very strong shear is indicated in the lowest 1 km, with a southwesterly wind of 50 kts indicated just off the surface. The majority of the shear is in the lowest 2 km. Above 2 km, the wind is weakly sheared, from the southwest at speeds between 60 and 70 kts.
