Eta 0-hr analyses of 250 mb heights (green contours), wind speeds (shaded), and divergence (white contours). Tan wind barbs represent Eta 0-hr 850 mb winds. All analyses are for 00z, 9/17/04. Note the pronounced upper-level divergence over the Tennessee and Lower Ohio Valleys, likely a result of coupled jet dynamics from a speed maximum to the north over the Upper Lakes region and a southern jetlet over Louisiana. Also note the thermally direct response to this upper-level divergence, in the form of a 50+ kt southerly 850 mb jet over the Southeastern states.
