A plan view of Eta 0-hr 2-D frontogenesis at 925 mb (green contours) and mean layer saturated EPV from 850 to 700 mb (with weakly stable (just above zero) and unstable (negative) values shaded), valid at 00z, 9/18/04. The collocation of strong frontal-scale forcing and elevated instability matches up well with observed heavy rainfall at this time.
