Identified Common Elements with More Intense Finger Lake Snow Events

  • Sufficient pre-existing moist layer (at least 200 mb deep in the lower levels) and maintenance of this environment for at least 8 hours

  • Low shear (both speed and directional)

    • Directional shear of 10 degrees or less from surface to 850 mb

    • Mean flow of 10-20 kt in the same layer
