An unprecedented outbreak of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes occurred across northeast Pennsylvania on December 1, 2006.
In addition to numerous severe wind reports, short-track F0 and F1 tornadoes touched down in Pike County, and a long-track F2 tornado occurred in Luzerne County.
The event was unique, as tornadoes had not been observed in that area in December since at least 1950.
In addition, the number of severe wind reports was unprecedented for December.
