Possible Explanations – 2: Topo
  • Surface Front encounters southwestern PA mountains.

    • Initial convection outruns front as front slows over the terrain.

  • When front re-emerges east of the mountains convection re-fires along it.

    • This convection, making use of the destabilizing airmass strengthens rapidly.

    • With no further topographic barriers, this convection becomes the most intense of the day
