Summary
The heavy snow event of April 16, 2007 occurred with a cyclone that deepened rapidly through the mid-troposphere off the New Jersey coast.
Intense mid-tropospheric deformation and frontogenesis developed on the northern-northwest side of the cyclone during the deepening phase.
Heavy snow bands occurred in association with the mid-tropospheric frontogenesis, in the TROWAL region of the storm.
Negative EPV was forecast just prior to and during the onset of the banding. Negative EPV regions appeared to diminish during the “mature” phase of the banding event.
