WSR-88D radar reflectivity loop - 12 UTC March 16 - 12 UTC March 17

Notes:

The radar loop shows a broad area of snow overspreading northeast Pennsylvania and central New York during the morning on the 16th. Bands of heavier precipitation developed during the late afternoon and evening as the deformation and frontogenesis strengthened. A particularly intense band of stronger returns developed over New Jersey during the afternoon, and lifted north across southeastern New York during the evening hours. Some of this higher reflectivity was the result of mixed precipitation across northern New Jersey during the evening. However, a period of heavy snow did occur during the evening from Pike county Pennsylvania northeast through Sullivan county, New York. A fairly impressive band of moderate snow also developed over central New York later in the evening, but the band was short-lived and only produced a few inches of additional snowfall.
