Characteristics of late-night severe weather in central NY and northeast Pa:
We have 10 events in our data base (since 2003) that occurred between 06z and 13z (out of 134 total events through 9/1/2008).
5 of 10 events occurred before May or after September.
CAPE was below 500 J/kg in 9 of 10 events.
0-6 km shear was greater than 30 kts in 8 of 10 events, greater than 40 kts in 7 of 10.
Flash flooding occurred with 3 events, damaging wind with 6 events, and hail with 3 events.
No tornadoes.
Only one event was associated with more than 10 severe plus flooding reports.
