Theta-e, negative EPV and vertical circulation cross-section
Notes:
The interaction between the thermally direct circulation associated with the frontogenesis and the reduced stability indicated by the low values of theta-e lapse rate can be seen by examining these cross-sections. The upward branch of the circulation was juxtaposed with reduced stability (indicated by steep theta-e contours and negative saturated geostrophic potential vorticity (EPV) shaded blue). The result was enhanced banding of heavy snow on the warm side of the frontogenesis.
