Notes:
The 12z Buffalo sounding indicated a weak cap near 800 mb, with moderately steep lapse rates above the cap. The convective temperature was 75 degrees. Note from slide 6 that temperatures ahead of the surface trough had reached 77 at Elmira and 76 at Penn Yan by 23z. Winds from 900-600 mb ranged from 40 to 50 kts.
