The degree of instability associated with this event may have been a critical component regarding its ultimate outcome as a significant damaging wind and tornado-producer. Forecasts of CAPE from the 03z run of the SREF, valid at Binghamton, NY are shown on this slide. A wide range of possibilities is indicated, with a median value of around 1300 J/kg. However values range from as little as 500 J/kg to as much as nearly 2000 J/kg.
