Speaker Notes:
This cross-section shows that the theta-es surfaces are forecast to be very steep (vertical) in the negative EPV layer around 500 mb. Theta-es surfaces that are steeper than geostrophic momentum surfaces indicate negative EPV and an environment that is susceptible to slantwise convection. In this case, the fact that the theta-es actually decreased slightly with height just above 500 mb indicates that potential instability (instability to upward motion / favorable for upright convection) may also have been present.
