Speaker Notes:
This is a RUC 0-hr cross-section of 2-D frontogenesis (white contours), saturated EPV (with weakly stable (just above zero) and unstable (negative) values shaded), and omega (light blue contours), valid at 06z, 9/18/04. As has been the case throughout this study, strong frontal-scale forcing, low to mid-level instability, and deep-layered omega accompanied the main band of heavy rain. Convective feeder bands, meanwhile, resided near plenty of instability, but with weak temperature gradients in the more tropical air.
