The Eta was forecasting a north-south maxima of surface-based CAPE exceeding 3000 J/kg from central New York south to central Pennsylvania valid at 18 UTC. Meanwhile, 0-3 km shear values were near 30 kts. This combination of high CAPE and shear indicated that there would be a severe weather threat on the 6th as the series of short-wave surface and mid-level troughs moved east across the area.
