The data on this slide shows a plan view 6-hour NAM forecast of 900 mb heights, temperatures and frontogenesis, valid at 00 UTC on the 2d. The strong frontogenesis maxima is clearly evident, coincident with the location of the heavy snow band shown earlier. Note that the frontogenesis is associated with the low-level height trough, and a very strong low-level temperature gradient over central New York.
