Speaker Notes:
During the afternoon on January 2nd, rain was falling across most of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania. The only points reporting snow at 21z were BGM and MPO (Mount Pocono in northeast Pennsylvania – elevation around 2100 ft). No cold air would be available immediately to the north; wet bulb temperatures below zero were confined to the Adirondack mountains and points northward. Instead of moving in from the north, the cold air appeared to move in from above, as snow levels gradually spread downward from the higher elevations.
