RUC cross-section of frontogenesis, negative theta-e lapse rate and ageostrophic circulation vectors
Notes:
This cross-section shows a frontal zone sloping from southeast to northwest across the area. Instability (as indicated by negative theta-e lapse rates, shaded in purple) was present in the zone where upward motion was indicated by the ageostrophic circulation (indicated by the yellow streamlines). Flash flooding occurred over northeast Pennsylvania and the western Catskills, in the area where instability was co-located with the upward branch of the frontogenetical circulation.
