Speaker Notes:

The data on this slide shows a cross section of RUC forecast equivalent potential temperature and omega, taken from east to west across the narrow intense rain band at 18z and 21z on the 16th. This data shows that the intense rain band, along with most of the upward vertical motion, occurred at the leading edge of a cold front aloft. The cold front aloft can be identified by a sloped, highly stable region where the equivalent potential temperature decreases rapidly from east to west. The surface cold front can be seen well to the west of the maximum upward vertical motion and the rain band.
