Speaker Notes:
Surface analyses during this event indicated that the intense rain band occurred well to the east of the surface cold front. The band appeared to occur in association with a wind shift from southeast to southwest, however the surface cold front, as indicated by falling temperatures, falling dew points and another wind shift from south to southwest, was about 200 miles to the west. The intense rain band also appeared to occur in association with a narrow band of negative equivalent potential temperature lapse rates in the 700 to 500 mb layer.
