Frontogenesis, omega and lapse rate cross-section

Notes:

These cross-sections show frontogenesis, omega and theta-e lapse rate forecasts from the NAM valid at 09z and 12z on the 28th, taken along a southeast-northwest oriented line from near Long Island to western New York. Strong upward motion can be seen near and just to the southeast of the frontal zone, coincident with a region of negative lapse rates. The front appears to become steeper with time. In many ways, this cross-section indicates an atmospheric structure similar to what would be seen in a winter storm, with strong precipitation banding.
