Environmental characteristics on July 26th, 2012
- Mid-level flow was zonal with weak height falls.
- Low-level pattern featured low pressure over New York state and anomalously high moisture flux from the Ohio valley toward New York and Pennsylvania. Some low-level frontogenesis was present.
- Instability was moderate over southern New York, much greater across central and southern Pa.
- Deep-layer shear was large across the area. Low-level shear was modest across much of the area, but was probably enhanced along the leading edge of the squall line.
