Time trend of rotational velocity, calculated over a 1.5 nm distance, for the vortex over Chemung county associated with the tornado that tracked across Elmira. Values associated with the vortex increased markedly between 1942z and 1946, just prior to tornado touchdown over southwest Chemung county, however the values ranging from 20 to 30 kts were not particularly high for a tornado-producing storm in this area.
