Possible wind analog - March 13, 1993 "Super Storm"Notes:Strong winds were expected to be a major component of this storm over central New York and northeast Pennsylvania. A 940 mb surface low tracking west across southern New Jersey was an unprecedented event; therefore it was difficult for forecasters to anticipate what kind of wind could develop. One idea for guidance was an examination of the winds that occurred with the March 1993 “superstorm”. While there were certainly many important differences between Sandy and the March 1993 storm, one similarity would be the presence of an extremely intense surface cyclone along the mid-Atlantic coast.![]() Slide 13 |
