KDP and instantaneous rain rate near SyracuseNotes:A time series of specific differential phase (KDP) and instantaneous rain rate is shown on this slide. The data was obtained for a small area center over the eastern part of the city of Syracuse, where the most significant flash flooding occurred. Two surges of high rainfall rate associated with high KDP values moved across the Syracuse area during the evening. KDP is directly related to rainfall intensity. Flash flooding occurred toward the tail end of the second surge, when KDP values exceeded 5 degrees per km. ![]() Slide 23 |
