ZDR maxima and minima near SyracuseNotes:A time series of differential reflectivity (ZDR) near the Syracuse area is shown on this slide during the evening of the 30th. ZDR values from 1 to 3 dbz are associated with increasingly large drop sizes, with values greater than 3 dbz associated with large drops with diameters generally greater than 3 mm. Tropical rainfall with small drops is typically associated with ZDR values of 1 dbz or lower. In this case, the surges of heavy rainfall appeared to be associated with large drops associated with convective rains, as the maximum ZDR increased to over 4 dbz during both heavy rain surges. ![]() Slide 24 |
