Forecast soundings from the 00z GFS and NAM for south central NY (BGM) valid during the afternoon indicated modest instability with MLCAPE values increasing to between 500-1000 J/kg. The GFS was forecasting over 50 kts of flow from the west-southwest at 500 mb, while the NAM was closer to 40 kts.
