Summary - small scale and banding
- Several intense bands of very heavy snowfall moved across the area between 06z on the 14th and 00z on the 15th.
- High resolution models did not do a great job forecasting these bands; the 3 km NAMX forecast the largest of these bands during the afternoon on the 14th.
- The bands occurred within an area of strong frontogenesis juxtaposed with negative EPV (reduced stability).
- Bands appeared to be laterally translating early in the event, then began to pivoting band as the cyclone deepened along the east coast.
