Why are PRE Important?
The occurrence and/or magnitude of these phenomena are often under-forecast
- They tend to affect regions “outside of the current focus” (i.e. – where a TC is making landfall)
- PRE are particularly efficient rainfall producers
- Tropical moisture connection
PRE can ultimately worsen the effects from a TC
- “Along-track” PRE – when the same areas get hit again with the more direct impacts of a TC
