The 850 mb frontogenesis and EPV patterns forecast at 00 UTC indicate that the pattern of reduced EPV above and on the warm side of the frontogenesis continued at 00 UTC. In this case, an area of negative EPV is forecast over northeast Pennsylvania and southern New York, indicating that slantwise convection would be possible in that area (assuming that the atmosphere was near saturation in that area – it was).
