The data on this image shows the upward vertical motion, and negative EPV (shaded blue). Note the lack of negative EPV in the upward branch of the frontal circulation, indicating a lack of instability with this case. Banding with this case appears to have been focused by frontogenesis, however there did not appear to be much instability present to further narrow and intensify the banding.
