Summary/Conclusion
A band of light to moderate snow moved east across the area early on the 18th.
A band of light to moderate snow moved east across the area early on the 18th.
The band moved quickly across the western counties, then slowed and stalled across the east.
Snowfall totals ranged from 2 inches or less across the west, up to 14 inches across the east.
The band lined up with a region of mid-level frontogenesis.
Instability with this system was modest (lapse rates between 6 and 6.5 degrees C in the region of maximum lift, but little if any negative EPV).
The overall environment associated with this event was not favorable for intense banding, however localized heavy snow accumulations did occur, primarily due to weak banding along with a very favorable temperature profile for high snow to liquid ratios.
Tools such as the historical analogs and SREF probability diagnostics are of limited use for such localized events.
