Event Overview

  • 2 areas of heavy snow of note were observed.
  • 6 to 18 inches of snow fell across the northwest slopes of the Catskills (mainly on the 3rd).
  • 12 to 24 inches of snow fell from near Auburn to Syracuse to Madison county (2nd through the 3rd).

Notes:

Two areas of heavy snow were noted with this storm. One was a large area of lake effect snow that occurred southeast of Lake Ontario from the 2nd through the 3rd. Snow amounts of 1 to 2 feet were noted with this snow area across the area from near Auburn to Syracuse east to Madison county. Meanwhile, an area of heavy snow was also noted over the northwest slopes of the Catskill mountains, in a region that does not usually get heavy lake effect snow. 6 to 18 inches was noted in this area, with the heaviest amounts occurring on the 3rd. This area of heavy snow extended well to the north and east of the BGM county warning area, and appeared to be associated with lake enhancement of the “synoptic wrap-around” precipitation accompanying the storm in the Gulf of Maine.
