Observed soundings - Buffalo and Oswego

Notes:

The 12z Buffalo sounding (left) indicated a shallow, surface-based stable layer capped by steep lapse rates from 850 to 650 mb. A special sounding taken by SUNY Oswego at Oswego during the afternoon (right) indicated similar conditions, with a shallow, surface-based stable layer, capped by an elevated mixed layer from 900 to 700 mb. Winds veered strongly at lower-levels, then became southwesterly increasing from near 30 kts at 850 mb to 50 kts at 600 mb.
