Albany observed sounding - 00zNotes:Finally, we investigate the possibility that the Catksill mountains may have blocked the strongest winds from reaching central New York. This slide shows the observed sounding at Albany, upstream from the Catksills, at 00z on the 30th. Winds are easterly into the Catskills from Albany. However, the strong easterly winds, plus the near neutral stability conditions produce a Froude number of 2.3, which is typically higher than what usually occurs when the flow is strongly blocked.![]() Slide 36 |
