MOS guidance performance at AVP

The last few slides compare some MOS wind forecasts to maximum sustained winds and peak gusts, observed at several first order stations. At Avoca, Pa, MOS forecast sustained winds were generally 20 to 30 kts, which correlated well with the observed maximum sustained wind. The maximum gust forecast from the LAMP guidance (GFS-based MOS adjusted to observations), shows an increase close to what was observed as lead time shortened to less than 6 hours.
