250 mb heights and wind speedNotes:The data on this slide shows the strong upper-level ridge over eastern Canada, building westward as the storm approached from the south. This ridge helped to turn Sandy westward into the mid-Atlantic coast. A strong southerly jet was located on the west side of the ridge, from the Ohio Valley north across the Great Lakes.
