RAP forecast soundings valid 06z
Notes:
BUFKIT soundings valid at 06z indicate that the mixed layer deepened between 00z and 06z, up to just above 3000 feet by 06z. Mean winds in the mixed layer again appeared to be a reasonable estimate of wind gusts reaching the surface for most of the area, with perhaps a slight over-estimation in the valley at AVP (52 kt). In this case, the wind at the top of the mixed layer may have been an over-estimate of the peak gust potential, even at the highest elevations, at both BGM and AVP. This would be due to the fact that the top of the mixed layer was well above the highest elevations in the area (over 3000 feet).
